The Sofia Region Administrative Court annulled as unlawful the decision of the Council for Electronic Media to terminate the procedure for the election of the Director General of the Bulgarian National Television.

The case was initiated after a complaint by one of the candidates in the competition for the election of BNT Director General - Irina Velichkova.

The competition was held in June last year and after no new head of public television was elected, its current general director, Emil Koshlukov, remained in office even though his mandate expired.

Koshlukov: If we need a raffle for president, BNT is already broadcasting the lottery

The court now refers the case back as a file to the CEM for a new ruling.

The court's decision is subject to appeal before the Supreme Administrative Court within 14 days.
