The miners in the region of Morogoro have been asked to form a coalition and partnership with miners and mineral buyers from the Great Lakes region to strengthen the country's mining market.

The Executive Secretary of the National Minerals Commission, Engineer Yahaya Semamba said that opening a two-day training for small-scale miners and said the government had set up an enabling environment that strengthens the partnership on mining issues between Tanzanians and people who work with mining from abroad.

He said that the strengthening of the performance of small miners has enabled the miners to increase the government's output collections in the mining sector by 40 percent and the government's plan is to enable small miners to import 50 percent of the country's gross domestic product from mining so that the revenue is in line with the larger miners.

He commended the region to increase the government's revenue in the mining sector by raising Sh1.3 billion in a goal of raising Sh1.6 billion, with the government's goal of raising Sh822 billion for this financial year.

Speaking before the opening of the training, Assistant Secretary of the Tanzania Miners Association (KIGOREMA), Boaz Mkohozi, said they were grateful the government had begun to fix the challenges in the mining sector to enable miners and people who work in mining to be productive.

However, he said that small miners still face a significant challenge of the use of poor equipment in their work as well as the challenge of access to credit from fedh institutions to buy better and more modern tools.
