The rupee strengthened against the dollar.

Mumbai:

The rupee appreciated by 82 paise to 54.82 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday led by foreign fund buying along with positive trend in domestic and global stock markets. At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (forex) market, the rupee opened higher at 57.82 and rose further to touch the day's low of 51.82. Later, it was trading at 54.82, up six paise from the previous close. On Friday, the rupee had settled at 60.<> against the US dollar.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.02 per cent to 104.18.

Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, rose 0.69 per cent to USD 77.48 per barrel.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital market as they purchased shares worth Rs 350.15 crore on Friday, according to exchange data.
