In 2023, Ukraine will be able to fully provide itself with buckwheat. That is, imports of cereals may not be needed at all, there will be no deficit, and prices are likely to remain stable.

This was reported in the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

Currently, the pace of sowing this crop lags behind last year. As of mid-May, 43.26 thousand hectares (37%) were sown with buckwheat in Ukraine, while in 2022, on the same date, sowing was carried out on an area of 48 thousand hectares.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, domestic consumption of cereals in Ukraine is approximately 110 thousand tons annually.

"That is, for domestic consumption, Ukrainians will be fully provided with this agricultural crop, and the residues will allow forming a transitional reserve," the department assured.

Most farmers sow buckwheat in the Ternopil region, where 8.8 thousand hectares have already been sown. Also in the top three - Vinnytsia and Sumy regions.

To recap, the State Statistics Service reported that consumer prices in Ukraine in April 2023, compared to April last year, increased by 17.9%. But this is significantly less than annual inflation, which was recorded at 21.3% last month.
