In Ukraine, the price of popular vegetables rose rapidly.

Prices for carrots, onions, and tomatoes have broken all records and are often higher than in neighboring Poland.

Minister of Agrarian Policy Mykola Solskyi said in an interview with "Glavkom" what factors influenced the price increase and when to expect a decrease in prices.

War

The minister explained that Mykolaiv and Kherson regions had the largest harvest of early vegetables.

And because of the war, these regions cannot grow enough products.

In addition, the left-bank part of the Kherson region, as well as the part of the Zaporizhia region, where many vegetables were also grown, are still occupied.

In particular, the current onion price was influenced by the fact that a lot of it was lost in Kherson and Mykolaiv, the farmer noted.

"There is currently no equivalent replacement for them," the minister explained.

Seasonal factor and earthquake in Turkey

Solsky noted that there are few vegetables on the market now, because it is not yet the season.

"At the end of the season, there are always fewer vegetables than at the beginning, and fresh ones have not yet appeared. Logistics to Ukraine is expensive. This year there were also unusual situations related to Turkey, the largest supplier of tomatoes to Europe. After the earthquakes, Turkey had a certain the period of the ban on the export of vegetables, until they figured out what to do next. All this together affects the prices. Moreover, I will say: in principle, it has always been, is and will be not only in our country, but also in other countries. And we each year at the end of winter and at the beginning of spring, we wonder why vegetables are more expensive. There are simply certain laws of the market," says the head of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

According to the minister, when new crop vegetables appear in Europe and Ukraine, then they will gradually

become cheaper

on the shelves.

It will happen sometime

from the second half of May.

We will remind that in Ukraine the prices of products have increased significantly.

Yes, the price of oil has changed, and manufacturers predict even more price increases.

Also, on the eve of Easter, there was an increase in the prices of popular products for the festive table.
