Spring is here and nice weather calls for gardening.

So there's nothing better than planting flower bulbs over the Easter holidays.

However, is the EU an importer of orchid, hyacinth, daffodil and tulip bulbs?

In 2022, the EU exported €100.6 million worth of orchid, hyacinth, daffodil and tulip bulbs, while importing just €30.9 million, Eurostat reports.

Out of all EU member states, the 

Netherlands

 accounts for 81 percent of the total export of these bulbs (82 million euros).

The share of total exports of other leading exporters is below 10 percent - Lithuania (7 percent, equal to 6.7 million euros), Poland (5 percent or 4.8 million euros), Denmark (2 percent or 2 .1 million euros) and Latvia (2 percent or 2 million euros).

According to the data, the majority of the bulbs of orchids, hyacinths, daffodils and tulips were exported to European territory. 

Switzerland 

is the EU's main partner for this product, importing €31.3 million worth of such goods (31 percent of the total).

Behind this European Free Trade Association (EFTA) country are Great Britain (21.4 million euros or 21 percent), Norway (11.5 million euros or 11 percent), Russia (9.4 million euros or 9 percent hundred) and Ukraine (5.5 million euros or 5 percent).

The EU also exported other bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, corms and rhizomes in growth or flowering to the value of €20.9 million, with the Netherlands being the main exporter in this category as well (€10.5 million or 50 percent of the total partition).
