The advisers have experience across the political and business world, people familiar with the matter said. Plouffe served as campaign director for Obama's first presidential campaign in 2008, then served as a senior adviser to Obama and worked at Uber after leaving the White House.

Messina, who served as deputy chief of staff during the Obama administration, once led Priorities USA Action, the Democratic Party's largest outside fundraiser.

As for Mucha, who worked for Disney for 20 years, he was responsible for handling geopolitical affairs and fan relations. During his tenure, his main priority was to expand the Chinese market. He also provided advice to Republican politicians in New York State before.

According to people familiar with the matter, the aforementioned three people all provided TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew with more than a month of pre-departure training before the hearing.
