PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has assured the United States that Tanzania has a sincere commitment to implement the areas agreed to cooperate between those countries.

He said that during the visit of the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, some cooperation documents have been signed, including a cooperation document in ports, Information and Communication Technology (IT) and business.

Speaking to reporters at the State House, Dar es Salaam yesterday immediately after speaking with the Vice President of the United States, President Samia said on behalf of all Tanzanians, the agreement will be implemented and respected.

In addition, he said he believes the visit will be an opportunity and a platform to find new places to invest.

President Samia welcomed cooperation with the United States in the areas of fishing, especially in the deep sea, fishing, salt mining, oil and gas research, tourism and maritime transport.

He also spoke about the issue of visas and explained that Tanzania welcomes the willingness of the United States to review the current visa agreement to enable citizens of the two countries to benefit from long-term visas.

President Samia said Tanzania has continued to benefit from various aid from the American people such as the Program That Gives Opportunities to African Countries to Sell Products in the American Market Without Taxes (AGOA).

He asked for the return of the AGOA contract because it is close to the end due to the fact that it is important to help businesses grow.

"Therefore, we ask for an extension of the contract that ends in 2025, at least until 2030," said President Samia.

He said that African countries, including Tanzania, are asking for the extension of the contract for at least 10 years so that investors who invest in the country and who use the program can be assured that their business will be sustainable.

Regarding democracy, he said it is an important thing in his government and he has tried to ensure that the rule of law is observed.

"And in this context, I thank President Joe Biden for the 2022 democracy conference that I attended online.

This invitation sends a message that our efforts are recognized in building a democratic nation," said President Samia.

He emphasized that Kamala's visit to the country confirms the existence of relations between the two countries and that the visits of the leaders of those countries have continued to strengthen those relations.

"And your visit has made Tanzanians now wait for the visit of the President of the United States, Joe Biden and please send greetings that Tanzania is waiting for him," said President Samia.

Previously, he said for more than six decades, Tanzania has benefited from aid from the United States that touched sectors such as health, education, water, sanitation, agriculture, food security, natural resources, infrastructure, democracy, human rights and good governance.

He said that in the health sector, AIDS and tuberculosis no longer threaten people's lives where AIDS infection has dropped from 7.2 percent in 2012 to 4.7 percent in 2017 and will further decrease in 2021.

President Samia said new tuberculosis infections have decreased from 306 to 208 people per 100,000 people and pregnant women with HIV are now sure to give birth to children without infection.

Also, he said through the country's support, malaria deaths have decreased from 7.7 million in 2015 to 3.5 million and the goal is to have a society without malaria at all.

He said that in achieving that goal, Tanzania is ready to receive an investor who will establish a malaria drug factory in the country to reduce the cost of obtaining these drugs.
