[Reporter Liao Jianing/Report from Taipei] Taiwan’s offshore wind power has entered the stage of floating wind farms. Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Zeng Wensheng pointed out that among the specific issues to promote floating wind farms, the first is the completeness of port facilities, followed by space planning and applicable sea areas These issues are being discussed by technical experts and relevant units, hoping to create a new approach to promote the development of floating offshore wind power in Taiwan, and then expand the scale of renewable energy in my country.

Zeng Wensheng attended the "Taiwan-Germany Offshore Wind Initiative Summit" (German Offshore-Wind Initiative Summit) and delivered a speech for the event.

Zeng Wensheng pointed out that Taiwan's offshore wind power generation capacity has reached 860,000 kilowatts. Compared with the past few years, 2022 will be a year of extremely fast growth in offshore wind power.

Offshore wind power in Taiwan has been advanced in three stages: demonstration wind farms, potential wind farms, and block wind farms. Now the government is working hard to promote the floating offshore wind power demonstration plan. In January this year, the Energy Bureau explained the demonstration plan to the public .

Zeng Wensheng said that during the discussion of the floating demonstration plan, the government also listened to the suggestions of the industry, including relaxing the demonstration scale, increasing the number of selected projects, and adjusting the relevant promotion schedule. Taiwan found an opportunity.

He continued that the task of the government is to find out the specific problems that will be encountered in the promotion process and prepare in advance. "The first and most important thing is whether we have sufficient port facilities, and the second is our space planning. , will there be some relevant content that needs to be adjusted?" The government hopes to communicate and discuss with the industry through the new demonstration plan, hoping that innovative methods will promote the development of floating offshore wind power in Taiwan, thereby expanding the scale of renewable energy.

Zeng Wensheng said that Germany is actively promoting renewable energy and has rich experience, which is inspiring to Taiwan. He hopes that the German experience can be used as a demonstration effect for developers of floating wind power technology in Taiwan. Germany and Germany, hand in hand to enter the Asia-Pacific offshore wind power market.

Zeng Wensheng was interviewed by the media after the meeting and pointed out that Taiwan has entered the discussion stage of floating wind turbines in terms of the progress of offshore wind power. The installation of floating wind turbines requires more port space and is being discussed with technical experts.

In addition, because floating wind turbines are different from fixed wind turbines, they must be anchored. Therefore, issues such as applicable sea areas must be communicated with relevant units, hoping to plan early and solve problems early.

After referring to the opinions of the industry, the Energy Bureau announced a new version of the floating wind farm demonstration plan in January this year. The original single wind farm capacity was capped at 50MW, and the calculation was changed to 6 to 12 floating platforms. The grid connection will start from 2026. It will be postponed to 2028, and it is expected to complete the business selection in the fourth quarter of this year.
