At a meeting of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Grain Producers (NAZ), held today, a decision was made to conduct effective protest actions from March 29 to 31, 2023 at the border points near Vidin, Ruse, Silistra and Kardam, NAZ wrote in a letter , sent to President Rumen Radev, Prime Minister Galab Donev and Minister of Agriculture Yavor Gechev.

"Bulgarian farmers are starting effective protest actions with a single demand: Not to extend for Bulgaria the effect of REGULATION (EU) 2022/870 of the European Parliament and of the Council of May 30, 2022, concerning the duty-free import of goods of agricultural origin from Ukraine," the letter said.

Ministry of Agriculture with a position on the grain producers' protest

The reason for the protest is the greatly deteriorated competitiveness of Bulgarian agricultural producers, as a result of the liberalized trade in agricultural goods with Ukraine;

the difficult situation in the "Agriculture" sector, as native farmers face the real threat of mass bankruptcies, inability to pay rents and significant inter-company indebtedness;

the lack of the usual market activity on the part of traders for the purchase of Bulgarian cereals and oil crops;

the fact that market prices in the last few months of all mass-grown cereals and oilseeds do not cover the costs incurred in their production;

the grain producers' warehouses full of agricultural produce nearly two months before harvest,

NAZ coordinates its further protest actions together with the entire agricultural sector of Bulgaria, Romania and Poland.
