The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) has taken samples of eggs imported from Ukraine for laboratory testing.

The eggs are being tested for radioactivity, heavy metals, inhibitors and residues of veterinary drugs, and the final results will be ready on March 24, the agency said.

From there, they undertook the research because of the increased interest in the import of eggs from third countries into Bulgaria, the BABH specifies.

2.5 million eggs from Ukraine may appear on the market as Bulgarian

And they add that the eggs originating in Ukraine are accompanied by protocols for laboratory analysis, as well as that warehouses in the territory of the country receiving fresh eggs from third countries are placed under daily veterinary control.

BABH informs that during the period 09 - 19.03.2023, a total of 2,608,200 fresh chicken eggs for direct consumption, class A, were imported into Bulgaria from Ukraine and Latvia.

All shipments are accompanied by the necessary accompanying documents, veterinary certificates and are from farms of proven origin, approved for import into the EU, says an official announcement of the BABH.

The eggs arrived in warehouses approved by the agency on the territory of the country.

All eggs carry the corresponding code on their shell, proving their origin.

The agency reminds consumers that they can distinguish eggs originating from Bulgarian farms by the seal on the shell beginning with the designation BG.
