The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Government Accounts (PAC) has said that the investment that has been made by the government in natural gas production activities and the operation of gas processing plants in existing gas projects in Mtwara region has shown value for money.

The committee stated this today immediately after visiting the natural gas wells of Mnazi Bay and the Madimba Natural Gas Processing Plant in Mtwara Region.

"We as the Parliamentary Committee on Government Accounts have seen value for money in this large investment in gas projects that the government has made," said Bonaventura Kiswaga, a member of the Committee.

Kiswaga said the committee will advise the government to increase the budget for the development of the natural gas projects.

"We congratulate the government for this large and productive investment and we ask it to continue investing in plants to ensure that they process a lot of gas and sell it to neighboring countries," he said.

The Vice Chairman of the Committee Japhet Hasunga has said that the committee is satisfied with the investment in gas projects and said that most of the money that was approved in the budget has been used to transport gas to Dar es Salaam to generate electricity.

In another step, Hasunga has said that the committee has visited the gas projects to check whether the funds sanctioned by the Parliament for the projects were used and their benefits and if they have brought productivity in the use of public funds.
