[Reporter Liao Jianing/Taipei Report] In response to last night’s power outage in Shezi, Beishi City, Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Meihua attended the “Joint Signing Ceremony of Commercial UAV R&D Subsidies for Military Use” today and pointed out that the cause of the power outage was the bushing of the Shezi substation. Old and poor insulation, the Ministry of Economic Affairs has asked Taipower to actively take stock of related grid equipment and replace old equipment in advance.

The media asked before the meeting that the power outage in Shezi has attracted the attention of all walks of life. Is it related to the decommissioning of the No. 2 nuclear power unit?

Wang Meihua explained that the reason for the power outages in Shezi and Shilin areas last night was that the wall bushing of the Shezi substation failed, and the line automatically activated the protection relay to cut off the power supply, causing a chain of blackouts, affecting about 29,000 households. I also hereby apologize to the public on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Taipower.

Wang Meihua further clarified that the post-inspection is that the bushings have been used for about 20 years, and the insulation has deteriorated. The renewal of this part of the equipment has been planned in Taipower's power grid resilience plan and is being promoted. After the accident last night, the Ministry of Economic Affairs also invited Taipower Actively take stock of equipment and replace it early.
