[Reporter Liao Jianing/Taipei Report] A certain celebrity has repeatedly alleged that Taipower's losses are caused by energy policies. After being slapped in the face as a major nuclear power country with more losses, they then argue that other countries have higher power generation to cause losses.

In this regard, Taipower refuted that in terms of electricity sales, the average losses per kWh of France and South Korea are much higher than that of Taipower.

Taipower stated that electricity prices in other countries are much higher than Taiwan, and its nuclear power ratio is high. It is also more expensive, rises more, and loses more. It is obvious that international fuel costs are the main reason for the huge losses. It calls on the outside world not to slander Taipower colleagues with political language Hard work.

Taipower pointed out that international fuel prices have soared. Last year, Taipower's fuel costs almost doubled compared with the previous year. Taipower turned from a surplus of 22.4 billion yuan in the previous year to a loss of 267.5 billion yuan last year.

However, Taipower is not a special case, similar to losses caused by soaring fuel prices.

For example, Taipower explained that the estimated loss of the French state-owned EDF power company in the 2022 fiscal year was more than NT$570 billion in conversion; the estimated loss of South Korea’s state-owned Korea Electric Power Company last year was more than NT$750 billion in conversion.

Obviously, this wave of rising international fuel prices has impacted the operation of the electric industry, which is a global phenomenon.

Taipower emphasized that if the electricity sales are converted, the average losses per unit in France and South Korea are much higher than Taipower.

Last year, the French state-owned EDF Power Company sold 414.4 billion kWh of electricity, with an average loss of 1.38 yuan per kWh; South Korea’s state-owned Korea Electric Power Company sold 547.93 billion kWh of electricity last year, with an average loss of 1.37 yuan per kWh.

In contrast, Taipower sold 236.76 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity last year, with an average loss of 1.13 yuan per kilowatt-hour.

Taipower pointed out that the electricity price in France is already higher than that in Taiwan. The average residential electricity price in 2020 is 6.06 yuan, which is almost 2.4 times that of Taiwan's residential electricity price in the same year. The industrial electricity price is 3.25 yuan, which is also higher than Taiwan's 2020 industrial electricity price.

After this year's increase, the French residential electricity price has been adjusted by 27% to 7.68 yuan, and the industrial electricity price has been raised by 122% to 7.2 yuan.

In South Korea, the residential electricity price was originally 2.68 yuan, which rose to 3.8 yuan, an increase of 42%, and the industrial electricity price was originally 2.42 yuan, which rose to 3.97 yuan, an increase of 64%.

Taipower emphasized that even if the proportion of nuclear power is high, the price increase in other countries under high electricity prices is much higher than that in Taiwan.

Taipower stated that the electricity price rate review committee considers the stability of people's livelihood and promotes energy conservation. The monthly electricity price of residential buildings below 700 kWh will not be adjusted, and a total of 93% of residential households will not be affected.

Small businesses will not be adjusted below 1500 degrees. A total of 84% of small businesses will not be affected, and agriculture, fishery and schools will not be adjusted.

At the same time, the amplitude adjustment will be halved for industries with declining electricity consumption.

The electricity price adjustment plan has tried to take care of people's livelihood and reduce the impact. We look forward to the support of all walks of life.
