[Financial Channel/Comprehensive Report] France's FNME-CGT energy union has called for an indefinite strike by workers in the electricity, gas and wider energy sectors to protest President Macron's reforms to the pension system.

Labor representatives urged strikers to gather at strategic locations, including four liquefied natural gas terminals and 13 gas storage facilities in France, and to continue reducing power production to drag on the economy.

In a statement, the union said there could be gas shortages within days if the government does not see a reason for the strike.

The FNME-CGT also pledged to tighten the blockade on incinerators.

More than 10,000 tonnes of rubbish have accumulated on the streets of Paris alone, according to City Hall, as garbage collectors went on strike to oppose plans to raise the minimum retirement age by two years.

Thousands of citizens gathered on Friday for the second night in a row at the Place de la Concorde, across the Seine from the French capital's lower house of parliament, to protest against reforms to the pension system.
