[Compilation of Wei Guojin/Taipei Report] Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported that Dutch Trade Minister Liesje Schreinemacher (Liesje Schreinemacher) pointed out that after "assessing our country's national security", The Hague decided to send some of the latest deep ultraviolet (DUV) machines before summer. ) included in the export control list to China.

She said the Netherlands responded to U.S. semiconductor control demands by expanding the export list of chip equipment to prevent related equipment from being used for military purposes.

According to the report, Schleinermacher sent a letter to Congress on the 8th of this month explaining the new export control measures.

The Netherlands has restricted exports to China of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) machines, which are critical to the manufacture of advanced semiconductors and which Dutch chip equipment company ASML has monopolized.

Although DUV is not as advanced as EUV, the equipment and the wafers it produces can still be used for military purposes, Schleinermacher said.

She emphasized that the Dutch measures are not aimed at China in particular, but that "we (democracies) really have to cooperate when it comes to national security and when it comes to restricting certain technologies from falling into the wrong hands."

The United States also asked Japan to restrict the export of semiconductor-related technology and equipment to China, and Tokyo is considering relevant measures.

Schleinermacher said she expected Japan to implement export controls similar to those in the Netherlands. "I would be very open to dialogue and discussions (to see if there are) any gaps or blind spots that we haven't considered," she said.
