[Central News Agency] The Swiss government will hold a special meeting today to discuss the Credit Suisse crisis.

Credit Suisse shares had plummeted to record lows the previous day.

The unrest over Credit Suisse prompted the seven-member Federal Council to schedule a special session a day ahead of its next regular session scheduled for Tuesday, the Swiss news agency ATS reported, citing government sources.

It was unclear whether any decisions would be taken at today's meeting, the Swiss news agency said.

AFP contacted the Swiss Federal Finance Ministry in the capital Bern but did not receive an immediate response.

Credit Suisse shares plunged 30% yesterday to hit an all-time low of CHF 1.55 per share.

Before the Swiss stock exchange reopened, Credit Suisse borrowed 50 billion Swiss francs (approximately NT$1.65 trillion) from Swiss banks to "support" the group, temporarily calming market concerns, and Credit Suisse's stock price opened today up 32%.

Credit Suisse is one of 30 Global Systemically Important Banks, considered important to the financial system.
