Quotes on Europe's leading stock exchanges sank deep into red territory today amid concerns about how turmoil in the U.S. banking sector could affect other markets, reports CNBC. 

On the London Stock Exchange, the FTSE-100 lost 1.18 percent to 7,656.86 points.
