[Reporter Xu Ziling/Taipei Report] IBM recently released its annual information security report "X-Force Threat Intelligence Index", which shows that Asia is the top target of hackers.

Asia will account for nearly one-third of all cyber-attacks detected in 2022, more than any other region in the world; manufacturing will account for nearly half of all attacks in Asia.

There are five main findings in this report: First, phishing attacks have gradually given up stealing credit card information.

The number of credit card information stolen using phishing tools will drop by 52% in 2022, showing that hackers are turning their attention to personal information such as names, emails and home addresses, which can be sold for higher prices on the dark web For sale, it can also be used in the next attack.

Second, the deployment of backdoor programs (for remote access to the system) is the most common method used by hackers to attack enterprises in 2022, and 67% of backdoor programs are linked to the implantation of ransomware.

The report found that the "market value" of deploying backdoor programs is higher than that of stolen credit card information. Hackers sell the deployed backdoor access rights for as much as US$10,000, but the price of each stolen credit card data is Only less than $10.

Third, extortion is the first choice for hackers to carry out cyber attacks, and it is also the most common method of cyber attacks in 2022; it is mainly achieved by implanting ransomware or using corporate email scams.

The global manufacturing industry has become the industry that suffers the most ransom attacks for two consecutive years, because the manufacturing industry has a very low tolerance for downtime; the financial and insurance industry, professional services, and customer service industries rank second and third in the number of ransom attacks.

Fourth, the exchange of e-mails within the enterprise has become a weapon for hacker attacks.

Hackers use compromised email accounts and pretend to be the account to respond to emails. The number of attacks per month in 2022 will double that of 2021.

Phishing is a leading cause of cyberattacks, showing hackers exploiting people's trust in internal corporate email.

Fifth, old vulnerabilities are still exploited by hackers today.

The report found that old malware attacks using old vulnerabilities to launch are still alive and spreading.

From April 2022 to the present, MSS remote network monitoring data shows that WannaCry ransomware traffic has increased by 800%.

IBM reminds enterprises that they need to improve and optimize their vulnerability management, including a more accurate understanding of their potential attack surfaces and planning security patch priorities from a risk perspective.
