The automobile market in China registered a drastic decline in January, DPA reported, citing data from the China Automobile Association.

1.24 million cars reached customers in China, or 41 percent less than a year earlier.

The decline was expected due to strong sales growth in December due to year-end effects when certain subsidies expired.

Despite the decline, China remains the world's largest car market.
