[Financial Channel/Comprehensive Report] According to the "Japan Times" citing government sources, Japan will soon announce new export regulations to control the use of semiconductor technology for military purposes.

The government under Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will revise the ministry order under the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Law.

Under the act, the export of certain semiconductor-related products and technologies requires permission from the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, the report said.

According to Asian Lite, the revised Ministerial Bill is expected to be released in the near future.

The government will consult with businesses and other interested parties in the spring to announce regulatory measures.

Japan's move follows U.S. President Joe Biden's announcement last October to tighten regulations on China's semiconductor technology.

Amid growing risks of a possible conflict between China and Taiwan, the need for and control over technological supremacy is intensifying, especially in semiconductors, which are critical to many technology-related industries, the report said.
