[Reporter Chen Jianzhi/Taichung Report] During the Spring Festival, President of Asia University Cai Jinfa led his school colleagues to visit AMD Advanced Semiconductor Corporation in the United States. They met with Dr. Lisa Su, the first Taiwanese female CEO of AMD, and awarded her an honorary doctorate degree, hoping to deepen cooperation in AI, chip design, and high-speed computing in medical, metaverse, SDGs and other applications in the future, and open up more international exchanges between Asia and the University.

During the Spring Festival, President Cai Jinfa, together with Zhang Wenzhong, Vice President of the School of Information and Electronics, and chair professors Huang Guangcai, Xue Rongyin, Xu Jian, etc., visited AMD in the United States, met with Chairman Su Zifeng, and awarded the honorary doctorate of Asia University.

AMD executives and engineers included Angela Dalton, Mike Schulte, Eddy Chang, Alan Lee and David Wang.

Su Zifeng said that she is very honored to be an honorary doctor of Asian University. As an engineer, she deeply feels and believes that science and technology are very important in solving some major challenges facing the world. I hope that Asian University students will be inspired and become future innovators and problem solvers.

Yada said that Dr. Su is a native of Tainan and immigrated to the United States since he was a child. He received a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and was elected as an academician of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Before joining AMD, he worked as an engineer in well-known technology companies such as Texas Instruments, IBM and Freescale Semiconductor.

Dr. Su is AMD's first female CEO of Taiwanese descent. She is a top scientist in semiconductor equipment and high-performance processors. She pioneered the use of copper to replace aluminum connections, and successfully increased the speed of semiconductor chips by 20%. She is also the first to be awarded a semiconductor patent. Women who received the "Robert N. Noyce Medal", known as the Bell Prize.

Cai Jinfa pointed out that it is a great honor to commend Dr. Su for his outstanding contributions in semiconductor R&D and corporate leadership during this trip. The cooperation of AI, chip design, and high-speed computing in medical, metaverse, SDGs and other applications will open up more international exchanges between Asia and the University.

Cai Jinfa said that in 2022, the "Top 2% of the world's top scientists" will be selected by Stanford University in the United States from among 8 million scientists, and 17 people from Asia University will be selected, including the person who chairs Asia University's "Artificial Intelligence and Cyber ​​Security Research Innovation Center" Professor Gupta is one of the world's top 0.1% of scientists, and the only candidate in "Computer Science" from Taiwan and India, which shows that Asia University is actively recruiting internationally renowned scholars and spares no effort.

Chairman Su Zifeng can become an honorary doctor of Asia University this year, which is a great news and honor for the 22nd anniversary of Asia University next month.
