This is how the carrier reacted to Vilnius Airport's decision to raise fees by 28%.

According to experts, this will affect ticket prices in other directions, writes Delfi.

Since Vilnius Airport has increased fees for carriers by 28% from January 1, 2023, Ryanair is reducing its flight schedule from Vilnius by 30% for the summer.

Two routes - to the British cities of Birmingham and Leeds-Bradford - will be canceled from March, and on 11 other destinations - to Athens, Berlin, Billund on Corfu to Dublin, Frankfurt, GdaƄsk, London Stansted Airport, Milan, Venice and Vienna - planes will fly less often.

The representative of Ryanair,

Dara Bredy

, called the increase in charges at Vilnius airport "illogical" and said that because of this, flights to Vilnius become less competitive compared to other European airports, which, on the contrary, are freezing or trying to reduce prices to return to pre-pandemic passenger flows.

Lithuanian aviation

expert Simonas Bartkus

expressed the opinion that this decision will also affect the prices of other tickets.

He called the increase in fees generally the right step, but the reduction of routes is "bad news for tourism":

"There will be short-term consequences of such a decision: probably, due to the small selection, high prices for tickets are expected this year," Bartkus said, adding that those who want to fly somewhere from Vilnius in the middle of summer should buy tickets now.

Vilnius Airport still remains a popular hub for Belarusians flying from there to other European countries.
