The GOVERNMENT has given capital of 6 billion shillings to the Tanzania Fertilizer Company (TFC) to distribute subsidized fertilizer throughout the country.

The information was released today January 27, 2023 in Dar es Salaam by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Anthony Mavunde when he was launching the TFC subsidy fertilizer distribution exercise.

"More than eight years have passed since TFC last distributed fertilizer to farmers.

He said, the government recognizes the importance of TFC and is aware that there is a large and effective fertilizer distribution network in the country, so it is the government's expectation that it will use it well to deliver these subsidized fertilizers on time to all farmers in the country.

"Fertilizer is not only important for farmers in increasing production productivity, but it is also a major pillar to ensure the country produces more and be sure of food security."

He said Mavunde and called on the Board of Directors and Management of TFC to work with great professionalism and integrity.

He said that the government has started the implementation of large projects throughout the country to enable the Agriculture sector to grow by 10 percent by 2030, the projects including the construction of 14 new irrigation dams that will store approximately 131 billion liters of water and serve more than 90,000 hectares.

Initially, giving a brief statement on the implementation of the institution's responsibilities, TFC General Manager Samuel Mshote thanked the government for giving capital to TFC and promised that he and his team will properly manage the capital so that they can achieve the government's great expectations.

On his part, the Executive Director of the Tanzania Fertilizer Control Authority (TFRA) Dr.

Stephan Ngailo praised the steps taken by the government to revive TFC and give it capital to start doing business, adding that TFRA is ready to continue to provide strong regulatory guidelines so that TFC can carry out its duties with great efficiency.
