(Central News Agency) Wall Street stocks climbed to their highest point in nearly eight weeks today, with major indexes closing higher after the latest data showed that the U.S. economy and corporate earnings may be doing better than feared.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 205.57 points, or 0.61%, to close at 33949.41.

The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 44.21 points, or 1.10%, to close at 4060.43 points.

The Nasdaq index of technology stocks rose 199.05 points, or 1.76%, to close at 11512.41 points.

The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose 47.61 points, or 1.63%, to close at 2966.60 points.
