[Financial Channel/Comprehensive Report] TSMC produces more than 90% of the world's advanced process chips. This proportion has aroused concerns from various countries, and they have asked TSMC to set up factories in this country.

TSMC has four 12-inch fabs, four 8-inch fabs, and one 6-inch fab in Taiwan. Its overseas subsidiaries include TSMC (Nanjing)’s 12-inch fab and WaferTech’s US subsidiary’s 8-inch fab. Wafer factory, TSMC (China) 8-inch wafer factory.

The group's annual production capacity exceeds 13 million pieces of equivalent 12-inch wafers.

TSMC’s U.S. factory is expected to mass-produce 4nm process in 2024, and 3nm will be mass-produced in 2026. The total investment in the second phase is about 40 billion U.S. dollars, and the total production capacity will reach 600,000 pieces a year; Japan’s Kumamoto factory will Production will start before the end of 2024, with production capacity including 22/28nm and 12/16nm fin field effect transistor (FinFET) processes, with an annual production capacity of 660,000 pieces.

The current planned annual production capacity of the U.S. factory plus the Japanese factory is 1.26 million pieces, accounting for less than 10% of TSMC’s current production capacity. If the 11 12-inch wafer fabs that TSMC has already built in Taiwan are added, the U.S. and Japan The investment and production capacity of TSMC is simply pediatrics. Even if the German factory under discussion is added, it cannot shake the foundation of TSMC's focus on Taiwan.

TSMC recently pointed out at the Law Conference that the proportion of the fourth quarter of 2022: 32% of 5nm and 22% of 7nm, that is, advanced processes below 7nm have accounted for more than 50% of TSMC's revenue. The advanced manufacturing process is currently in Taiwan. The 4nm process in the United States will be the most advanced process in the country when it is mass-produced in 2024, but by then TSMC has advanced to the 2nm process.

That's why CEO Wei Zhejia confidently said "there is no door" for the worries of the outside world.
