Supermarket chains in Greece have started for the first time in months to receive price lists with discounts ranging from 5 to 18 percent, Kathimerini reports.

Despite these positive developments, prices remain high, since the same products have already increased in price by 25-35 percent since last year.

Discounts also apply to own-brand products.

The products where price reductions are expected in the next period are sunflower oil and corn oil - respectively 18 percent and 8 percent.

This is mainly due to reductions by suppliers of own-brand products, adds BTA.

Price lists have also been sent with discounts on imported goods such as cheeses, mainly Gouda and Edam, as well as white cheeses made from imported cow's milk, in both cases the discount reaches 15 percent.

Also included are price reductions for imported oil and pork of Dutch origin.

According to market analysts, the decrease in the prices of imported dairy products is mainly related to the increased production of cow's milk in Central Europe, which also led to the accumulation of stocks.

The availability of new price lists with price reductions was also mentioned on Monday by the Minister of Development and Investments Adonis Georgiadis on Sky TV, where he said that last week, for the first time since the start of the war in Ukraine, some food industries not only have canceled increases, but have also made decreases.

He is expected to present more data at a press conference on Wednesday.
