[Reporter Lu Yixuan/Taipei Report] On the 17th, Hsieh Wu-chao, the representative to the UK, and Greg Hands, the Deputy Minister of International Trade of the United Kingdom, met at the London headquarters of the Ministry of International Trade, continuing the topics discussed in the Taiwan-UK Economic and Trade Dialogue last year.

The two sides hope to promote trade cooperation in several key areas, including offshore wind power, digital and semiconductor, and electric vehicle industries.

Hans visited Taiwan in November last year and co-chaired the 25th Taiwan-UK Economic and Trade Dialogue on behalf of the United Kingdom and Minister of Economic Affairs Chen Zhengqi.

The two sides have extensive exchanges on issues such as agriculture, energy, medicine, financial services, business and talent links, technology, and economic resilience. This year, discussions on supply chain cooperation in electric vehicles, 5G, and semiconductors have been added.

After the meeting, I also witnessed the signing of the "Taiwan-UK Innovation Research and Development Cooperation Memorandum" between the UK Innovation Bureau and the Technology Division of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

More than two months later, Xie Wuqiao, the representative in the UK, went to the London headquarters of the Ministry of International Trade on January 17 to continue discussing with Hans about Taiwan-UK trade cooperation.

Hans tweeted after the meeting to share the meeting, pointing out that this is a continuation of last year's economic and trade dialogue, hoping to continue to deepen trade cooperation between the UK and Taiwan in key areas such as offshore wind power development, digital trade, semiconductor industry, and electric vehicle industry.

According to the data of the British Office in Taiwan, the total bilateral trade between Britain and Taiwan will exceed 8 billion pounds (about 294.5 billion Taiwan dollars) in 2021, an increase of 14% compared with the previous two years.

The results of the annual British business survey conducted by the British Office in Taiwan in 2022 also pointed out that the vast majority of British companies operating in Taiwan are optimistic about Taiwan's economic prospects.

A real pleasure to catch up with Taiwan High Representative Kelly Hsieh in @tradegovuk & continue discussions during my recent visit to Taiwan.
