WEF meeting in Davos

Davos:

A mega gathering of world leaders will begin on Friday in the snow-clad city of Davos, Switzerland, in which thousands of delegates, including about a hundred people from India, will discuss the topic of 'cooperation in a fragmented world'.

The last annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) had to be held in May last year, deviating from the usual practice.

The Davos summit is usually held in January but could not happen due to restrictions related to the Kovid-19 pandemic.

Prior to this, the meeting of the year 2021 was also held online.

The health crisis, along with some restrictions related to the pandemic, the ongoing war in Ukraine and the economic fallout of the geopolitical situation have made this time's Davos meeting quite interesting.

About 50 heads of government and heads of state are expected to attend the meeting starting on Monday in the next five days.

From the Indian side, apart from four Union ministers- Mansukh Mandaviya, Ashwini Vaishnav, Smriti Irani and RK Singh, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will also participate in it.

Many officers and business entrepreneurs will also be present in it.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Karnataka's BS Bommai were also supposed to attend the meeting but now they are unlikely to attend the summit.

However, Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao and Tamil Nadu Minister Thangam Thenarasu have reached Davos.

Business heavyweights Gautam Adani, Sanjiv Bajaj, Kumar Mangalam Birla, N Chandrasekaran, Nadir Godrej, Ajit Gulabchand, Sajjan Jindal, Sunil Mittal, Roshni Nadar Malhotra, Nandan Nilekani, Adar Poonawalla, Rishad Premji and Sumant Sinha are expected to attend the meeting. is likely to.

The Davos meeting will call on world leaders to address the immediate economic, energy and food crises and lay the groundwork for a more sustainable and resilient world.

The organizers are expecting good participation from Asia including China and Japan.

The theme of WEF's 53rd Annual Meeting will be 'Cooperation in a Fractured World'.

In this, more than 2,700 leaders of 130 countries will be called, in which 52 heads of states and heads of governments will also be there.

Top political leaders attending include German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, European Commission Chief Ursula von der Leyen, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, South African President Cyril M. Ramaphosa, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Swiss President Alain Berset.

WEF founder and executive chairman Klaus Schwab said, 'We see a fragmentation of political, economic and social forces at the global and national level at this time.

We need to increase cooperation between the government and business sectors to address the root cause of this decline in trust.
