The Management Board of the State Fund for Agriculture (DFZ) has approved an annual financial resource for 2023 in the amount of BGN 8,000,000 under the state aid scheme for compensating the costs of farmers related to the implementation of measures under the National Pest Control Program on permanent plantations during the winter period, announced the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.

Pending the entry into force of the new state aid schemes under the state aid legislation for the period 2023-2029, it is envisaged that the current scheme will apply until 30 June 2023.

The aid is provided in two stages.

The first is in the spring.

It covers the period from the passing of the frosts to the swelling of the fruit buds.

The funds provided for the second stage cover part of the fruit growers' and gardeners' costs incurred for plant protection products that are used in autumn during the period of mass leaf fall.

Support is provided for pest control products purchased with expenditure documents.

In 2022, 3,444 farmers were supported for spring treatments with plant protection products and 2,665 for autumn treatments, receiving a total of BGN 7,344,917 in aid.

The acceptance of projects under the sub-measure for young farmers is extended until January 31

The purpose of the aid is to limit losses from the spread of pests on permanent plantations (seed and stone fruit species, strawberries, raspberries and oil rose).

The DFZ, together with the competent directorates in the Ministry of Agriculture, will prepare the guidelines for applying for the aid.
