The first commercial case of 5G SA combined with network slicing in Taiwan, a new era of public services

Far EasTone and Ericsson have joined hands to build a "5G Smart Patrol Vehicle" with the Gaoshi Police Department in the Yawan District through 5G SA combined with technologies such as network slicing, artificial intelligence, and edge computing.

Far EasTone Telecom and Ericsson have joined hands to combine network slicing, artificial intelligence, edge computing and other technologies through 5G SA (independent networking), and have completed the network test. 5G Smart Patrol Vehicle" will help the police and government units improve the capacity of urban crime detection and prevention and public security management, and ensure that police vehicles can still carry out video connection with the command center in real time in crowded places.

This is the first commercial case of 5G SA combined with network slicing in Taiwan, opening a new era of 5G network slicing in the development of public services.

"5G Smart Patrol Car" is combined with a star-level night-vision camera device, with a shooting width of 2 to 3 lanes. Through 5G transmission and AI recognition of license plates, vehicle identification can be completed in a short time. If abnormal vehicles are found, the vehicles on the patrol car will send out an alarm immediately. ; It can also structure the image, clearly depict the vehicle movement trajectory, effectively assist in the detection of stolen vehicles, combat crimes, and improve service efficiency.

"5G Smart Patrol Car" uses Local Packet Gateway (LPG) for edge computing. Data are stored and processed at edge nodes to ensure low latency and data security. It is not necessary to set up a database system for each car. Avoid out-of-sync records, reduce maintenance costs and eliminate the risk of single-point failure of patrol cars; in addition, this architecture can be rapidly deployed on a large scale, and can be quickly extended to all parts of Taiwan in response to police needs.

During continuous holidays, festivals and other crowded hotspots, the "5G Smart Patrol Car" can activate Far EasTone's 5G network slicing and Ericsson's Dynamic Radio Resource Partitioning function (Dynamic Radio Resource Partitioning) to efficiently allocate and secure 5G spectrum resources, and will The 4K high-resolution video is transmitted to the service center in real time, which is conducive to grasping the scene situation at the first time, precise command and dispatch, and preventing major public security incidents or stampede incidents.

"5G Smart Patrol Car" combines starlight-level night-vision camera devices, through 5G transmission and AI recognition of license plates, completes vehicle recognition in a short time, effectively improving service efficiency.

Jing Qi, general manager of Far EasTone, said: "I'm glad that through the R&D capabilities of Far EasTone's 5G "big data, artificial intelligence, and Internet of Things", Ericsson's exclusive innovative technology, and the application fields of the Kaohsiung City Police Department, the three parties jointly Completed a series of 5G network slicing technology tests, and launched the first 5G SA network slicing commercial case in Taiwan at the beginning of this year. Far EasTone will continue to develop 5G multiple application scenarios, and cooperate with enterprises and public sector partners to improve the efficiency of urban governance with technology. Bring more reliable and safe innovative services to the society.”

Zhou Daqi, general manager of Ericsson Taiwan, said: "5G brings more innovation possibilities, and Ericsson accelerates the expansion of edge application cases. The 5G SA and local packet gateway we cooperated with Far EasTone have become the indispensable key to realize edge computing. Factors. We are very happy to assist Far EasTone and the Kaohsiung City Police Department to complete the "5G Smart Patrol Vehicle" test. Through 5G, the efficiency of police handling cases is improved and the safety of people's property is protected. In the future, we will have the opportunity to deploy this successful experience to all parts of Taiwan In order to continue to realize the potential of 5G, Ericsson will continue to develop multiple application scenarios with telecom operators, bringing more convenient life to everyone and improving the operational efficiency of enterprises and institutions.”

Kaohsiung City Police Chief Lin Yantian said: "Introducing technological investigation into police work will help strengthen the fight against crime and maintain law and order. The innovative model of 5G smart patrol cars can prevent crimes in a more efficient and comprehensive way, while helping colleagues to reduce duties. Burden. We are glad that we have the support of the city government, Far EasTone and Ericsson’s assistance, so that Kaohsiung can gradually realize the vision of 5G smart police administration. We look forward to the development of Taiwan’s first "5G smart patrol car" in the future. Taiwan, fight crime and maintain law and order.”
