The Russian energy giant Rosneft wants to supply gas from its Siberian fields in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Irkutsk Region to the planned export gas pipeline "Power of Siberia-2", which should supply blue fuel to China, Kommersant reported.

"Rosneft" holds reserves of 1.5 trillion cubic meters of gas in the fields along the route of the future gas pipeline.

The company wants its gas reserves in Krasnoyarsk Territory and Irkutsk Region to be taken into account in the design and construction of the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline.

According to "Kommersant" sources, the head of "Rosneft" Igor Sechin insisted on this before the President of Russia.

According to the edition of December 20, Putin has assigned Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak to work on the issue together with Gazprom.

The Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline, planned to reach China via Mongolia, should have the capacity to transport up to 50 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

The pipeline is supposed to connect the gas transport infrastructure of western and eastern Russia, enabling gasification of large cities in Eastern Siberia, which currently do not have access to main gas pipelines.

Rosneft's profit jumped to $7.2 billion despite the sanctions

Since December 2019, Gazprom has been supplying gas to China through the Power of Siberia-1 gas pipeline, which should reach a design capacity of 38 billion cubic meters of gas by 2025. Its resource base is the Kovikta fields, the largest in Eastern Siberia, and Chayandinskoe, in Yakutia.

Both Gazprom and Rosneft declined to comment on Kommersant's inquiry on the matter.
