The West is interested in preventing the economic collapse of Ukraine.

Currently, the allies are helping our country not only for the sake of victory over Russia, but also for the perspective of post-war recovery.

How Ukraine will give money after victory, the chief consultant of the Center for Foreign Policy Studies of the National Institute for Strategic Studies (NISD), economist Ivan Us, explained to FREEDOM.

According to him, part of the aid from the US is grants that do not need to be returned.

"And it (the USA. - Ed.) is the main donor of the economy and security of Ukraine. When the package of 45 billion dollars for Ukraine was approved, there was an allocation for the military component, and for the economic and humanitarian components. And all this is irreversible, which is very it's important that we don't have to return anything here," the expert explains.

Another source of money for Ukraine is loans from the European Union.

"Yes, these are loans. But. First of all, the interest on them is not that high. Second, the actual interest that must be paid will be paid by the EU countries, they have taken this option upon themselves, we will have to return only the body of the loan , as they say. It will have to be returned not immediately after the end of the war, but in different periods. I even came across information that some loans were allocated for 32-33 years, that is, Ukraine will be able to rebuild its economy, launch it at full capacity, even probably join the EU, and after that return the money," the economist notes.

In his opinion, after Ukraine joins the EU, the issue of debts will be a common problem of the European community, which they will try to solve together.

"So I don't see a particular problem here either. Even the money that will have to be returned, it won't be so huge," says Ivan Us.

In addition, the expert reminded that there is an option of debt restructuring.

"Everyone understands where this debt came from. It was taken because there was a threat to the security and, I emphasize, that not only of Ukraine, but also of the European Union, at least of its individual members. For example, Poland, there is a clear understanding of what, most likely, they will be attacked next, accordingly, it is desirable for them not to allow this to happen. ... We defend the same values on which Europe exists after the end of the Second World War," the expert concluded.
