The number of electric cars purchased in 2022 in Romania has crossed the 10 thousand threshold, and newly registered cars are up 7% year-on-year, BTA reported, citing a market analysis made by an online car platform.

According to data on the new car market in Romania, 129,328 cars were registered last year, and in the first half of 2022 alone, this segment saw the largest increase in registrations in the European Union (EU) with 58,712 cars entering the local market. market, or 23% more compared to the same period in 2021.

Compared to the pre-pandemic period, the car market for new cars has decreased by 20% compared to 2019 (almost 33,000 units less).

In 2022, the best-selling car is Dacia Logan, followed by Duster, Sandero, Spring and Ford Puma in the top five.

Regarding electric cars, Autovit.ro's analysis shows that sales in 2022 were three times higher, and the share of the Dacia Spring model is over 50% of this market.

So, in general, last year ended with more than 10,000 electric cars sold.

The second-hand imported car market represents the segment with the biggest decline in the Romanian car market, with 18%, a total of 325,062 units, compared to 395,759 cars imported into the country in 2021.

During the same analyzed period, the main fuel for cars put on sale remained diesel, but three percent less compared to the previous year.

At the same time, the number of gasoline cars on the platform increased by two percent, while the supply of electric and hybrid cars remained constant.
