The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, allowed payment for the supply of Russian gas from "unfriendly countries" in foreign currency, not in rubles.

This is stated in the decree published on the official website of legal information.

According to the document, Russian natural gas suppliers can make settlements with gas buyers from "unfriendly countries" in foreign currency when collecting debts for gas supply from such buyers or if they repay the debt themselves.

According to the decree, gas payments can be made in the foreign currency specified in the contract.

The authorized bank, based on the application of the supplier from Russia, must open a special account.

The debt for gas supply will be considered repaid after the funds of the foreign buyer have been credited to such account.

We will remind:

On March 31, Vladimir Putin signed a decree on a new order of payments for the supply of natural gas with "unfriendly countries".

According to Putin, in order to purchase Russian gas, Western countries should open ruble accounts in Russian banks.

Gazprombank has been appointed as the authorized bank for opening ruble accounts.

"We offer counterparties from such countries a clear and transparent scheme. In order to purchase Russian natural gas, they must open ruble accounts in Russian banks. It is from these accounts that gas payments will be made," he said.

The European Commission has warned EU members that

buying Russian gas for rubles is a violation of sanctions.

On March 5, the Russian government approved a list of 51 foreign states and territories that, in its opinion, are carrying out "unfriendly actions" against Russia, its companies and citizens.

It included: Ukraine, all member states of the European Union (28 countries), USA, Great Britain, Japan, Australia, Albania, Andorra, Iceland, Canada, Liechtenstein, Micronesia, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Republic of Korea, San Marino , North Macedonia, Singapore, Taiwan, Montenegro and Switzerland.
