[Reporter Hong Chenhong/Kaohsiung Report] In response to the government's carbon reduction policy, the Petrochemical Division of PetroChina has completed 16 carbon footprint inspections of main and by-products and obtained a third-party inspection statement. Footprint check petrochemical industry, a big step towards net zero carbon reduction.
The petrochemical business of CNPC today invited midstream and downstream petrochemical manufacturers to participate in the "Central Petroleum and Petrochemical Division Product Carbon Footprint Result Announcement Conference" to disclose the carbon footprint of six major products and ten by-products (products include olefins, aromatic hydrocarbons, cracking The verification results of fuel oil (PFO) provide downstream raw material carbon emission coefficients as the carbon footprint of self-factory products, and together create a local data database to better match the local carbon emission situation.

Chen Guodong, CEO of the Petrochemical Division, said that the National Development Council announced the goal of the net-zero transformation stage and specific action plans on February 28. The Petrochemical Division participated in the High City Industrial Net-Zero Alliance in June, responding to the "big and small" Strategy, together with the industry to promote net-zero carbon reduction; he said, in fact, before the country announced the policy at the beginning of this year, a convening group had been established and relevant departments were invited to participate in the carbon footprint inventory work.
Chen Guodong said that through the carbon footprint check, the precise carbon emission coefficient of each raw material can be provided to the downstream, and the domestic industry can be helped to enter the international market and the carbon trading mechanism.
He said that CNPC provides raw materials for downstream production of products ranging from people's livelihood, public goods to high-tech, photovoltaics, semiconductors, information and communication, etc. He believes that one day the downstream will definitely ask CNPC, what is the carbon footprint of the raw materials given to us? "Because foreigners are asking." From the standpoint of assisting the downstream, I had to complete the carbon footprint inventory as soon as possible, and finally got the inspection statement on December 8.
Huang Shihong, deputy director of the Gaoshi Environmental Protection Bureau who attended the meeting, said that carbon reduction must be carried out in all aspects at the same time. The first thing to do is to conduct carbon inventory and carbon footprint calculations. Only after knowing the carbon footprint can we review the reduction measures. At the same time, foreign countries also emphasize carbon reduction in the supply chain. This is the future. The invisible competitiveness of product export.
