Japan has purchased oil from Russia for the first time since May.

[Financial Channel/Comprehensive Report] Japan will import Russian crude oil for the first time in more than half a year as the Japanese government urges energy importers to stockpile fuel to avoid fuel shortages.

"Bloomberg" reported that according to ship tracking data compiled by "Bloomberg", the Aframax Zaliv Baikal ship was loading Russian oil on Wednesday (28th) and departed from the Sakhalin 2 oil and gas facility in the Russian Far East to Japan.

Japan has not imported Russian oil since May.

According to a statement released on December 19 on the Sakhalin Island Energy website, Japan's Sun Oil Company is the latest buyer of Rosneft, and the company plans to divert the cargo to the two unloading stations in Kikuma and Bofang.

While Japan joins other Western allies in imposing sanctions on Russia, Japan has not taken strict measures against oil and gas. The Japanese government has said that Russia's Sakhalin 2 is an important source of Japan's liquefied natural gas supply. Its oil production and Imports are necessary for domestic stability in Japan.
