The report pointed out that this is not the first time Yaman has been sentenced.
As early as 2019, Yaman was sentenced to 5 years in prison and fined 5 million U.S. dollars for embezzling 1 million U.S. dollars of state funds (approximately NT$30.65 million).
However, after Yaman was sentenced, he was transferred to house arrest in 2020 and was released a few months later.
After his release, Yaman returned to the political arena. At present, Yaman has been nominated as the presidential candidate of the Maldives Progressive Party (Progressive Party) and will participate in the 2023 Maldives presidential election.
