[Compilation of Lu Yongshan/Comprehensive Report] Due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Europe has faced energy shortages this year, leading to soaring electricity prices, making the cost of driving an electric car comparable to that of a fuel car.

Economists pointed out that the trend of rising electricity prices in Europe is expected to continue for several years, which may reduce the appeal of electric vehicles for consumers and threaten the transition of the European auto industry to electrification.

In Germany, Tesla has raised the price of super charging stations several times this year, most recently in September, when the price rose to 0.71 euros (23.2 Taiwan dollars) per kilowatt-hour (degree).

At this price, Tesla Model 3 owners need to pay 18.46 euros (603 Taiwan dollars) to get enough power to travel 100 miles (161 kilometers).

In comparison, the owner of a Honda Civic fuel car drives the same distance and only needs to pay 18.31 euros (598 Taiwan dollars) for refueling.

As Europe's largest car market, Germany's electricity prices have risen fiercely this year.

According to the German Statistics Office, the average electricity price for households in Germany was 0.43 euros per kWh in December, much higher than France's 0.21 euros per kWh, but lower than Denmark's 0.46 euros per kWh.

At present, there is no sign that the rising cost of charging electric vehicles has affected the sales of electric vehicles.

Sales of electric vehicles in Europe reached 259,000 in the third quarter of this year, up 11 percent from the second quarter and 22 percent from a year earlier, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association.

But economists say the rising cost of electricity comes at a time when some governments in Europe are removing subsidies for buying electric cars, a change that could slow sales of electric cars, threatening Europe's greenhouse gas emissions targets and making European cars more expensive. It is difficult for manufacturers to recover the high cost of electrification transformation.
