Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun reported that Renesas Electronics Corporation’s Beijing plant has temporarily shut down since last night due to reports that employees have been diagnosed with COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019), resulting in insufficient manpower and difficult production lines.

Renesas Electronics stated that in order to ensure the stable operation of the production line and to give priority to the safety and security of employees, it has decided to temporarily suspend work.
According to the report, the Renesas Electronics Beijing factory is currently temporarily suspended for several days. If the number of confirmed cases does not decrease, the suspension period may be extended.
The last time the Renesas Electronics Beijing plant was shut down was from January to February 2020 when the initial outbreak expanded.
The Beijing factory employs about 1,000 people, and mainly manufactures semiconductors for home appliances, industrial machines, and automobiles, and supplies products to domestic and foreign companies.
The report said that since last month, metropolises such as Beijing and Shanghai have seen a sharp increase in the number of confirmed cases.
Some Chinese media reported that the epidemic will reach its peak in the next month.
