[Financial Channel/Comprehensive Report] Sony (Sony) is considering building a new factory in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan to produce smartphone image sensors, and is expected to purchase chips from TSMC's (2330) Kumamoto new factory.

The Nikkei newspaper reported that Sony plans to spend billions of dollars to break ground as soon as 2024 and mass-produce it in 2025.

Sony is the world's largest supplier of CMOS Image Sensors, which are used in smartphone cameras and cars.

According to calculations, Sony will account for 44% of the global market share in 2021, well above the 18% of rival Samsung Electronics.
