[Financial Channel/Comprehensive Report] Russia's infrastructure and logistics bottlenecks have worsened with the arrival of winter, and due to European sanctions on Moscow and increased freight demand in Asia, rail congestion has accelerated the deterioration of Russia's coal sales prospects to China.

China's coal imports from Russia continued to decline in October from previous months, according to the latest data, as logistical bottlenecks in Russia hampered supply, while falling demand in China also limited demand for the fossil fuel.

Coal arrivals in Russia were 6.43 million tonnes in October, down from 6.95 million tonnes in September and a record 8.54 million tonnes in August, the Russian Customs Service said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged domestic companies to forge closer ties with Asia and Latin America after Europe sent thousands of troops to Ukraine on February 24, 2022 and imposed sweeping sanctions on Moscow.

As part of Ukraine-related sanctions, the EU has also imposed an embargo on Russian coal imports starting on August 10.

A spokesman for the Russian Railways said that this year there has been a large-scale diversion of logistics to the east, which cannot be predicted in advance.

The domestic demand today is very large, not only for coal exports, but also for the transportation of goods in all sectors.
