The German company Uniper, which was the largest partner of Russia's Gazprom, decided to file a lawsuit demanding compensation for gas that was not received from June 2022.

This is stated in the press release of Uniper.

The German company decided to initiate arbitration proceedings in Stockholm.

Uniper motivates its demand to Gazprom by the fact that the German company, due to the lack of supply of Russian gas, was forced to buy it on the market at higher prices.

In less than half a year, the company's cost overruns reached 11.6 billion euros.

"We bear these costs, although they are not our responsibility," said Uniper CEO Klaus-Dieter Maubach.

Uniper also stated that it has decided to distance itself as much as possible - both legally and in terms of personnel - from its Russian division.

The company is put up for sale, a potential buyer has already been found, but Russia does not agree to a change of ownership.

As a reminder, since the beginning of the year, Russia has exported 67.6 billion cubic meters less gas to European and Asian countries than in the same period of 2021.

Meanwhile, gas reserves in Europe are 94.7% full, compared to 77%.
