[Financial Channel/Comprehensive Report] "Reuters" reported that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has instructed the Ministry of Economy, the Environment and the Ministry of Finance to draw up a legal framework to extend the operation of three domestic nuclear power plants until April 15, 2023.

Germany was due to complete its plan to phase out nuclear power by the end of this year, but the collapse of Russia's energy supply due to the outbreak of the Ukrainian war at the beginning of the year prompted the German government to put two nuclear power plants on standby.

The Shoads government has been divided over nuclear energy, delaying the implementation of a draft law that would delay the closure of two nuclear power plants.

In addition to the Isar II and Neckarwestheim II plants included in the draft, Finance Minister Christian Lindner has been pushing for a third Em The Emsland nuclear power plant remains in operation.

The three power plants have an installed capacity of 4,300MW (million watts), contributing 6% of Germany's electricity generation this year.

In a letter published by Reuters, Mr. Shortz said officials would be asked to submit proposed regulations to Cabinet as soon as possible, while also asking ministries to propose proposals to improve energy efficiency and legislate a deal to phase out coal by 2030.

Lindner welcomed the move and said legislation could be pushed forward immediately.

Lindner tweeted on Monday (17th) that it is in the vital interest of the country and the economy that Germany will maintain full energy capacity this winter.

The long-time anti-nuclear Green party's parliamentary leader said in a statement that it was an "unfortunate" decision by Mr Shortz to keep the Amesland plant and that the party would discuss with a parliamentary panel how to respond to the prime minister's decision.

Environment Minister Steffi Lemke said the government's decision on Monday made the way forward more clear, but reiterated that Germany will continue to phase out nuclear energy and will not extend the life of nuclear power plants after mid-April next year.
