[Reporter Liao Jianing/Taipei Report] In order to assist the transformation of the service industry, the Ministry of Economic Affairs today released the "Net-Zero Transformation Path for the Commercial Sector in 2030", proposing four major strategies, hoping to develop the carbon reduction potential of the industry, accelerate the carbon reduction of the service industry, and build a green business type.

According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the service industry accounts for more than 60% of my country's GDP, and business activities are not only highly related to economic development, but also play an important role in the transition to net zero.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs pointed out that 87% of carbon emissions in the business sector come from electricity emissions and 13% from non-electricity emissions. Therefore, for the service industry, it proposes "improvement of equipment or operational behavior", "use of low-carbon energy", "low business model". The four major strategies of "carbon transformation" and "green building" are promoted through two aspects: strengthening government regulation guidance on the environmental side, and guiding the industry to voluntarily reduce emissions on the enterprise side.

In terms of equipment or operational behavior improvement, the government can speed up the replacement of energy-consuming equipment and the introduction of energy management systems through regulatory tools such as the government’s annual adjustment of the minimum allowable energy consumption standards for equipment, energy efficiency graded labels, and doubling of the power saving target from 2025.

As for the use of low-carbon energy, through the research and development of mandatory solar photovoltaic specifications for new buildings, as well as the current renewable energy obligations for large power users, enterprises are guided to install and use renewable energy.

In terms of low-carbon transformation of business models, the government also assists enterprises to apply data monitoring and analysis technologies, develop low-carbon business models, and establish demonstration and promotion cases to drive low-carbon transformation of business models.

In terms of green buildings, encouragement, publicity or revision of relevant laws and regulations are adopted to increase the proportion of green buildings in new buildings and achieve energy saving from the source.

By improving the regulatory system and promoting the implementation of enterprises, we hope to effectively reduce electricity and non-electricity emissions, and reduce carbon emissions in the commercial sector.
