The President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, has ordered the government to speed up the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline connecting the country with India through Afghanistan and Pakistan, the official newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan" wrote, quoted by TASS.

The construction of the pipeline started in 2015, but a little later it was stopped until the "stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan".

The Taliban, who took power in Kabul last year, recently expressed their desire to continue construction, and a government delegation visited Ashgabat to negotiate details of its construction.

The cost of TAPI is estimated at about 10 billion dollars, and its length should be more than 1,800 km.

Its capacity is expected to reach 33 billion cubic meters of gas per year, which should flow from the Galkanash field in Turkmenistan to the Indian state of Punjab.
