[Financial Channel/Comprehensive Report] Google CEO Sundar Pichai said on Friday (7th) that as the company's business in the Asia-Pacific region grows, it plans to invest a total of 100 billion yen in Japan by 2024 (new NT$21.8 billion).

Pichai told Nikkei in Tokyo that the company will invest 100 billion yen over four years to 2024, some of which will go to data centers.

Google will open a data center next year in Chiba prefecture near Tokyo, its first in Japan.

Pichai is visiting Japan to meet with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and to share details of Google's investment plans.

The Chiba data center will be the company's third location in Asia, after Taiwan and Singapore, and will support efforts to connect Japan with the rest of the world's economies, he said.
