The agreed daily amount of gas that will flow through the pipeline is 29,000 megawatts.

"This event is really huge in importance for Bulgaria, for our neighboring countries, and for the EU. We are diversifying both routes and sources of supply. This event has a visible and real effect on Bulgarian consumers, and gives a breath of fresh air in terms of at competitive prices, the diversification of supplies. The most important thing for us as a company is that this morning from 7 o'clock the entire amount of Azeri gas flowed through the interconnector at the agreed price," said Zlateva.

The Minister of Energy: We are solving our problems with the interconnector

Vladimir Malinov, executive director of Bulgartransgaz, said that after the launch of the interconnector, Bulgaria, together with Romania, Slovakia and Hungary, can transit increased amounts of Azeri gas to Europe.

"This is an initiative resulting from the memorandum of partnership with Azerbaijan. From the beginning of August, we started working in this direction - what was agreed between Mrs. von der Leyen and Mr. Ilham Aliyev to increase the quantities of Azeri gas in the long term plan on the territory of the entire European Union".

Today is also the beginning of the gas year.

Until now, quantities of Azeri gas were reaching Bulgaria, but October 1 is a key date in terms of prices, Malinov also commented.
