[Reporter Li Xinfang/Taipei Report] Taiwan applied to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in September last year. TPP and the Center for Transnational Economic and Trade Legal Research”, held the last “CPTPP and Legal System Forum” today to discuss the topics of “CPTPP and Fair Trade” and “CPTPP and SMEs”. The two sessions attracted more than 100 participants. Soochow University Law Department professor Li Guiying said that CPTPP can bring more opportunities for Taiwanese companies, so my country must not be absent from regional integration.
This morning’s session on fair trade was chaired by Adjunct Professor Huang Meiying (former Chairman of Fair Trade Association) of the Economics Department of Taipei University, Wang Lida, Distinguished Professor of National Chengchi University, Hu Zushun, Director of the Comprehensive Planning Division of the Fair Trade Commission, and Institute of Science and Technology Law, Yangming Jiaotong University Associate Professor Zhuang Hongyu participated.

Huang Meiying said that due to competition among countries, policies will vary according to national conditions and development levels. CPTPP has established a set of standards to make it easy for countries to build a consensus on norms. At the same time, my country has a sound fair trade system and has made full preparations for joining the CPTPP.
Wang Lida also believes that the CPTPP norms will help to reconcile the competition norms between my country and other countries, so that Taiwanese businessmen can reduce the obstacles to transnational business.
Hu Zushun believes that in the era of digital economy, countries are deeply influenced by technological giants, and CPTPP can be used as an effective platform for international cooperation.
Zhuang Hongyu also said that in the digital economy era, competition policies of various countries have been advanced with the times, and the CPTPP is the result of this trend.
In the afternoon, the small and medium-sized enterprises part of the CPTPP agreement was discussed. It was chaired by Professor Li Guiying of the Department of Law of Soochow University, and there were Assistant Professor Zhang Kaizhi of Soochow University; Associate Professor Xue Jingwen and others participated.
Li Guiying said that CPTPP can bring more opportunities to Taiwanese companies, so my country must not be absent from regional integration.
Zhang Kaizhi also said that in the past, economic and trade agreements were often criticized for only taking care of large enterprises, but the CPTPP not only has a special chapter for small and medium-sized enterprises, but also has many provisions for taking care of small and medium-sized enterprises in each chapter, so it is helpful for enterprises to do business.
Lian Kexiong also said that Japan and other Southeast Asian countries have signed free trade agreements with Southeast Asian countries and enjoy more preferential tariff rates and other conditions. If my country can join the CPTPP, it will help Taiwanese companies to obtain relatively fair competition conditions.
Xue Jingwen believes that CPTPP emphasizes the cooperation of various countries, which will build a friendly environment for small and medium-sized enterprises.
