The Ministry of Agriculture will activate state aid to compensate for the damage to the vineyards in the Burgas region.

This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Todor Dzhikov, who inspected the damage caused by the storm in the vineyards near Pomorie, together with the mayor of the city, Ivan Alexiev, and the regional governor of Burgas, Maria Neikova.

To date, 48 applications have been submitted by farmers for failed areas and the commissions have found about 2500 decares of vine plantations with completely destroyed production.

Four teams of the Regional Directorate "Agriculture" in Burgas are assessing the damage, the agrarian deputy minister pointed out.

Over 1,500 acres of vineyards were destroyed by the storm in Pomorie

Farmers with completely destroyed production will be compensated through the scheme "Aid to compensate for damage to agricultural crops caused by adverse climatic events that can be equated to natural disasters".

The maximum allowable support under this state aid is up to 80% of the actual costs of growing a given crop during the economic year, calculated according to updated technology maps.

By order of the Minister of Agriculture, Yavor Gechev, additional funds will be added to the compensation rate to clean up the effects of the storm, Todor Dzhikov also said.

The strong storm in Pomorie destroyed 90% of the grape harvest

For the destroyed structures in the vineyards, the regional governor Maria Neikova has committed to do everything possible so that people receive support from the state, and based on the submitted applications, an assessment of the damage will be requested from the Interdepartmental Commission for Restoration and Assistance at the Council of Ministers.

The fruiting of such a plantation is 30-40 years or half a human life and nothing can compensate the investment of farmers, it is their livelihood.

We see how weak and powerless we are before the elements of nature.

It is high time for the Ministry of Agriculture to create an interdepartmental group between the state, farmers and insurance companies.

It is the state that can determine the direction in which we will go, said Deputy Minister Todor Dzhikov.
